Oct. 27th 2025, Magistrate Soa Mamakoh Betty Kallon at Court No.3 in Freetown sentenced Alex Conteh to two years imprisonment for obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 32 (1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to police records, the accused, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Spur Loop, Wilberforce, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of Ninety-Five Thousand Leones (Le95,000) from Sankoh Koroma under the pretext of purchasing palm oil for him, knowing this to be false.
Conteh pleaded guilty to the charge. When asked by the court whether he had any relative willing to repay the defrauded amount, the accused mentioned his sister.
However, upon being called before the court by Magistrate Soa Mamakoh Betty Kallon, the sister stated that she was “not there to pay the said money.”
Given the gravity of the offence and the absence of restitution, Magistrate Kallon sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment.
