The Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has joined the Sierra Leone Police in paying glowing tribute to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, particularly during the country’s brutal civil war, describing them as “brave patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.”

Minister Bah made the remarks during an inter-faith prayer service held at the Police Training School in Hastings to mark National Remembrance Day, a solemn occasion dedicated to honouring fallen police officers.

In an emotional address, the Minister praised the courage, dedication, and resilience of police officers, noting that they have consistently placed themselves in harm’s way to protect lives, property, and national stability.

“Every day, when others run from danger, you run toward it,” Minister Bah said. “During the war, police officers were deliberately targeted and killed. Yet even in the face of grave threats, you chose to lay down your lives for your country. As Scripture reminds us, there is no greater love.”

Speaking on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio, the Minister expressed profound gratitude to the Sierra Leone Police for their unwavering service, heroism, and commitment to peace and security. He encouraged serving officers to remain steadfast, disciplined, and patriotic as they continue to safeguard the nation.

The solemn ceremony brought together police personnel, senior government officials, religious leaders, families of fallen officers, and members of the public. It featured inter-faith prayers, testimonies from victims and bereaved families, and a symbolic wreath-laying ceremony in honour of officers who died in the line of duty.

The wreath-laying was led by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Fayia Sellu, who also paid tribute to fallen officers and commended their sacrifice, describing them as pillars of peace, law, and national security.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the heavy price paid by the Sierra Leone Police in the defence of democracy, peace, and national unity.
