The first annual Retreat was held at the Sierra Palm Resort Aberdeen, Freetown, where the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the National Mineral Agency gathered on Wednesday, 14 August, 2024. This Retreat aimed to sculpt the future of the Sierra Leone Mining Sector by focusing on strategic planning and policy development for sustainable growth.

Alhaji Daboh, the Director General of the National Mineral Agency, emphasized the pivotal role of the mineral sector in Sierra Leone’s economy. He expressed optimism and satisfaction in the collaboration between the Ministry and the Agency, highlighting the importance of undisturbed focus during the Retreat to achieve their objectives.
Alhaji M. Turay, the Chairman of the National Mineral Agency Board, spoke about the event’s significance in demonstrating their dedication to the progress and enhancement of the mineral sector. He stressed the sector’s contributions to national revenue and the creation of employment opportunities, while also acknowledging the need for further improvements and a conducive environment to attract Foreign Direct Investments.

The Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Julius D. Mattai, shared his confidence in the collective capabilities of the Retreat’s participants. He emphasized the importance of effectively, efficiently, and transparently managing the mining sector and pledged to address any leaks in the system.
The Retreat set the stage for constructive discussions and reflections on Sierra Leone’s mineral resources, aiming to create lasting benefits for the nation and its people.
