APC/SLPP UNDER PRESSURE

Since the establishment of the Tripartite Committee six months ago some Sierra Leoneans have been circulating wild and unfounded information that if the Committee unearth that the June 24,2023 elections were not transparent, free and fair the Committee will recommend for a re-run election. It is the legal mandate of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone to order for a re-run of elections. Period!
According to the mandate of the Tripartite Committee it was derived from Resolution 3 of the agreement for unity signed by the Government of Sierra Leone and the APC. Its emphasis is to thoroughly delve into Sierra Leone’s electoral management systems since 2007 to 2023, recommend legal reforms, institutional reforms and other recommendation recommendations. The Committee came into existence due to the disputed June 24, 2023 election between the Sierra Leone People’s Party(SLPP) and the All People’s Congress(APC) party as each party was claiming victory.

The Tripartite Committee is a combination of government representatives, the All People’s Congress and international partners. The Committee is also mandated to prevent any future political violence that will derail the peace and national cohesion of the country.
At the end of the work of the Committee the findings are binding on all the political parties involved as politicians of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party and the All People’s Congress Party. Over the past six months, the Committee has developed its Terms of Reference(ToR), important key documents, undertook nationwide sensitization and consulting with international experts and partners.
Unfortunately, the Committee could not submit its finds and recommendations as expected on 19th June, 2024, due to other unfinished issues. However, in due cause the Committee will present its report to President Bio and other stakeholders.
