Orders From Above…

Hon. Wuyatatta Berbadette Songa Exposed

A disturbing case of alleged political interference has emerged in Kailahun District, where Honorable Wuyatatta Bernadette Songa, a Member of Parliament in Sierra Leone’s Sixth Parliament, is accused of obstructing a criminal investigation involving her staff member, Barbra Massaquoi.

The controversy stems from an incident on January 31, 2025, at approximately 1:30 am, when Fatmata Vandy, a resident, discovered that her vehicle had been vandalized. The alleged perpetrator, Regine Massaquoi, son of Barbra Massaquoi, was reportedly caught near the scene before fleeing into a nearby house. Upon closer inspection, Vandy found that her car’s tires had been slashed and its bumper forcibly removed.

Following the incident, Vandy promptly reported the matter to One Pole Police Station. However, what should have been a routine criminal investigation took an unexpected turn when Hon. Songa allegedly intervened, pressuring law enforcement officials to release Regine Massaquoi on the grounds that he was a minor, an assertion that has since been called into question.

The case was later transferred to Adonkai Police Station, but Vandy believes that the MP’s influence could derail the investigation entirely. She further alleges that Barbra Massaquoi brazenly bragged about her political connections, implying that being affiliated with an MP made her and her family immune to prosecution.

The unfolding scandal has ignited widespread concern over the abuse of political power in Sierra Leone, particularly regarding the ability of high-ranking officials to manipulate law enforcement and shield their associates from justice.

Vandy, who remains fearful that the case may be swept under the carpet, has called on the authorities, civil society organizations, and the media to ensure that justice prevails. Citizens and activists alike are now demanding that the Sierra Leone Police uphold the rule of law, and free from political interference.

As the case develops, the spotlight is now on Hon. Wuyatatta Bernadette Songa and whether she will be held accountable for her alleged actions. Will justice take its course, or will “orders from above” once again prevail in undermining due process?

Stay tuned for more updates.
