S/Leone Ranks 57th in Global Peace
At the Ministry of Information and Civic Education’s weekly press briefing held at the Youyi Building in Freetown, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), Moses Margao, highlighted Sierra Leone’s outstanding performance in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2025.
Margao attributed these gains to the government’s unwavering commitment to peacebuilding and inclusive governance. He emphasized that the implementation of the eight resolutions from the Agreement for National Unity —signed in October 2023 between the Government of Sierra Leone and the All People’s Congress (APC)—has been central to sustaining political stability, fostering national dialogue, and reducing tensions after the elections.
He further noted that Sierra Leone’s improved ranking reflects growing international recognition of the country’s progress in conflict resolution, democratic consolidation, and community cohesion initiatives spearheaded by the ICPNC and other partners.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education reaffirmed that these achievements underscore President Julius Maada Bio’s vision of consolidating peace and unity as a cornerstone for national development. Officials encouraged Sierra Leoneans to continue supporting dialogue, tolerance, and respect for democratic processes, as these remain vital to maintaining the country’s positive trajectory on the global stage.
