Over Alleged Missing Funds…

Mines Minister Implicates Finance Minister

A fresh storm is brewing within government corridors as the Minister of Mines has openly alleged accused the Minister of Finance of concealing or misrepresenting revenue generated from the mining sector. This startling revelation has sent shockwaves across the nation, raising serious questions about transparency, accountability, and the true state of Sierra Leone’s mineral wealth.

According to the Mines Minister, he alleged that the figures presented by the Ministry of Finance do not reflect the actual revenues collected from mining activities. He also alleged that billions of Leones are unaccounted for, creating suspicions of financial mismanagement and a deliberate attempt to downplay the sector’s contribution to the economy.

The Mines Ministry insists that mining remains one of the country’s leading revenue earners, especially from exports of iron ore, rutile, bauxite, and diamonds. However, the minister argued that the nation has not been reaping the full benefits of its natural resources due to poor reporting and questionable practices in the management of funds.

This public exposure has sparked nationwide debate, with civil society organizations, opposition parties, and economic watchdogs calling for an immediate investigation. Many are demanding that the government release a detailed breakdown of mining revenues, reconcile discrepancies, and hold those responsible accountable.

Observers note that this revelation could strain the relationship between the two ministries, potentially destabilizing government cohesion at a time when citizens are demanding greater transparency. The matter has also reignited conversations about resource governance, corruption, and the urgent need for reforms to ensure Sierra Leone’s vast mineral wealth benefits its people.
