Businessman Granted Bail

A businessman accused of defrauding a victim with promises of overseas employment has been granted bail at the Pademba Road Court No.1
Julius Sylvester Jabati appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Court No. 1, facing two charges: conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences, contrary to Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the prosecution, between 10th May and 28th July 2025 at #152 Kissy Road in Freetown, Jabati conspired with other unknown persons to defraud Mohamed Kannie Kamara of 191,700 Leones. He allegedly falsely promised to facilitate an overseas travel program for job opportunities in France or the United States.
The charges were read and explained to the defendant, but no plea was taken.
Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai requested a short adjournment.
Magistrate Jah granted the defendant bail in the sum of 250,000 Leones, with two Sierra Leonean sureties’ resident within the jurisdiction. The sureties must produce valid identity cards depicting their Freetown addresses. Bail is to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter was adjourned to 23rd January, 2026.
