After getting a second mandate, President Bio will soon be choosing his cabinet, and sources close to the corridors of power state that His Excellency will be making some dramatic changes to the existing team. This has left many of his ministers in a state of panic, especially those who had made little or no impact in their work.
According to our source, among the most important decision is who will head the Finance Ministry, as this is an integral part in addressing the current economic situation in the country; a situation that the main opposition party used to campaign against his second term bid. Next is the position of Bank Governor. His Excellency has learnt his lessons that not all who brandish impressive degrees in Economics are worth having as Bank Governor, like in the case of the former Bank Governor, under whose watch the economy went berserk.
Also of prime importance is the position of Energy Minister, as efficient management of this sector will ensure increase in business activities, both by locals and international investors. It will also see a good number of interested investors flocking into the country. It goes without saying that energy p[lays a very important role in the development of the industrial sector, especially as His Excellency is determined to strengthen agriculture and the production of our staple food, rice. The existence of crushing machines and other technical equipment to enhance the finished product of the staple food demands adequate electricity.
Furthermore, with the establishment of an industrial zone at Koya, there is the need for sustainable electricity, as the said company championing the sector is poised to establish several factories, which will provide employment for youths and others.
The Water Resources Ministry is another important sector that has been under the radar for the inadequate supply of water to communities across the country. There is every need for a competent and visionary Minister in that sector, who will be able to think outside the box. President Bio needs a minister who will think of providing more community water tanks, improve on small dams in the capital city, as well as expand the facility and its supply chain at Mile 13. The provision of taps in the city and in other parts of the country, with the view to reduce the time take by residents, especially young girls to fetch water from far away areas.
There has also been calls for a complete overhaul of the entire cabinet, and the introduction of fresh ideas in the administration. Calls have been made for the reduction of the number of diaspora members in the Bio administration, and the introduction of homebased ones, who understand the needs of the people. Amidst these calls, many ministers are said to be having sleepless nights, with many asking whether their names are in Bio’s list for appointment.
Some analysts Say that since President Bio will not be going for any further re-election after his term ends, he will be taking decisions that may not be favorable to close associates, but which are for the good of the country, and this is where the worries are seen,
