The Sierra Leone Police have officially launched a manhunt for the organizers of the August 10th protest, including Abubakarr Nelson Turay, Ibrahim Kamara, Sorie Kargbo, Foday Samura, Mohamed Conteh, among others. They are wanted in connection with the violent anti-government demonstration that occurred on August 10, 2022.

According to a statement from police headquarters in Freetown, Abubakarr Nelson Turay and his associates are believed to have played a key role in mobilizing individuals to participate in the protest.

Law enforcement sources revealed that officers attempted to arrest Turay at his residence earlier this week, but he reportedly fled before they could apprehend him. A nationwide manhunt has since been launched, and police are urging the public to provide credible information that may lead to their arrest.

The August 10 protest remains one of the most significant civil disturbances in recent years, with demonstrators clashing with security forces over economic hardship, governance concerns, and the rising cost of living.

Turay is also believed to have designed the protest messages displayed on placards carried by demonstrators. The government has labeled the event an insurrection and vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice.

The police have identified Abubakarr Nelson Turay as a person of interest with alleged ties to groups suspected of orchestrating the unrest. The public is strongly warned that harboring wanted persons is a criminal offense punishable by law.

Authorities reaffirm their commitment to upholding peace and security and have made it clear they will not tolerate actions that threaten national stability.

Since the failed attempt by plainclothes officers to arrest Turay at his residence in the east of Freetown, his whereabouts remain unknown as of press time. Investigations into the full scope of the protest and those involved are still ongoing.
