The Minister of Local Government and Community Affairs Ambassador Lamin Yambasu has said at the usual press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Community Affairs that his statement made at the Makeni Town Hall on Mid July 2025 over the possible additional chiefdom at Biriwa Chiefdom stem from numerous outlaw incidents which has taken place in the Chiefdoms resulting in the burning of houses and murder and that he cannot sit by to endorse civic disobedience in any chiefdom. He said the additional Councils, Districts and Chiefdoms propose by government aimed at effective service delivery and the factors to be determine will be base on the topographical outlook geographical structures and population’s growth. He said he has completed his nationwide tour and his Ministry has worked on the recommendations for the consideration of President Bio.
But Biriwa Limba Chiefdom descendants have launched an appeal to President Bio to leave Biriwa as it is. The head of the Biriwa Limba Chiefdom in the USA Mr. John Kargbo says he has no doubt that President Bio will use this acknowledged global democratic credentials to give support to the history of Biriwa Limba Chiefdom and in particular a ruling by the Supreme Court that Dr. Idris Sheriff whose intention to contest for the Chieftaincy at Biriwa was declared as invalid Null And void and has no legal bindings.
He said President Bio hails from a Ruling House. He said the atrocities highlighted by the Minister were perpetrated by Sheriff and supporters and should have been arrested and prosecuted but go free as if we are incapable to make our laws effective. He said in Sierra Leone, names bearing in most towns identify their tribal links. He said they were not named in a hurry had there been no related historical advantages. He said names like Bonthe Shebro, Kargboro, Bumpeh Ribbi Chiefdoms denotes the Shebro enclave Samu for the Susu, Kalangba for the Lokos, Kono for the Konos and Kabala for the Kurankos. He said President Bio upon attaining the Presidency in 2018 made it clear that irrespective of your Ethnic, Political, Religious or Social belonging. He is President for all he said it is in this domain that President Bio always proves that he is a trustworthy President. He said Biriwa is among the smallest Chiefdoms with only nine sections and depopulated. He said its topographical limit was mapped out in pre-colonial era and its inhabitants had never had causes for alarm except the chieftaincy episode of which democracy is the weapon to end it all.
