Osman Dumbuya, a farmer, Sheka Foday Turay, a student made another appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown. They are charged on two counts conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretenses contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the charge statement between August 1st and August 31st, 2022, at Manboreh junction, Old Road Calaba Town, Freetown, conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Haja Kadie Kamara with the sum of Eighteen Thousand Leones (Le 18,000).
Count two on the above date and place the first accused, with intent to defraud by obtaining the sum of Eighteen Thousand Leones from Haja Kadie Kamara by falsely pretending that he will facilitate her travel to Dubai, knowing same to be false
When the charges were read and explained both accused pleaded guilty.
Police prosecutor sergeant 9939 Lahai.M led and exhibit Clerk Buyah Abu Kamara attached at the Ross Road Police Division, said his role and duties is to collect and keep all exhibits and tender them in court when necessary.
He recognized the accused and recounted on the 5th August, 2024, when detective police constable 11213 Kandeh M handed over to him money as exhibit which he recorded with serial number 15/2024.
However, the prosecution closed their case and the accused was asked by Magistrate Kekura if they relied on their statement giving to the police or if they wish to bring in witnesses to testify on their behalf, but the accused did not reply.
Magistrate Kekura adjourned the matter to the 17th, March, 2025.
