Investigations mounted over the activities of one of the sacked Lecturers at the Milton Margai Technical University (MMTU), Emmanuel Anthony, who is parading as the holder of a doctorate degree, has revealed interesting information about how he surreptitiously became a Lecturer at the Higher Educational institution. The aforesaid Lecturer is among several Lecturers terminated by the University Court of the MMTU, after an in-depth investigation conducted by the University Court over sexual harassment claims made against them by students and colleague Lecturers.
It could be recalled that last year, news of sexual harassment of female students by certain lecturers came to the fore, prompting the Ministry of Higher Education and theUniversity Court of MMTU to mount an investigation into same. The alleged perpetrators of the crime took to the social media to tarnish the image of the Principal and others. But, after the investigations mounted by the MMTU University Court, several lecturers were found guilty of the said allegations and have been terminated. But this did not stop the likes of Emmanuel Anthony to continue on social media to attack the personality of the Principal and University Court. As his diatribes gained momentum on social media, this medium then mounted an in-depth investigation into the claims of Anthony, and during our investigation, it was discovered that Emmanuel Anthony did not, in the first place, have the necessary qualifications to be employed as a Lecturer in that University. According to administration sources, no Lecturer with a first degree in a lower division, like Anthony, should not be employed. It was then revealed that Emmanuel Anthony has a Bachelor of Science degree in Division Three Level (BSc Div-3). University sources disclosed that no one with a division three in any discipline is employed by the University, and how Emmanuel Anthony got that employment is a matter of investigation. It was further disclosed that Anthony claimed to have a Masters Degree from Atlantic International University (AIG) in Econometric in the same year that he graduated from FBC (2021), which incidentally raised eyebrows over that possibility, as such courses take more than one year to attain.
Unfortunately, the document from Atlantic International University presented by Emmanuel Anthony, only indicated that he has entered for a Master program in Econometric in the said university, and not an indication that he has been conferred with such a degree. It was further revealed that Anthony has been parading as the holder of a Doctorate Degree, but there are no indications that he ever darkened the doors of any university for the said program, and parading as Doctor, was misleading and a criminal act on his part.
Some concerned educationists say that with such a dubious record of his academic achievements, Anthony poses a laughable spectacle of the University and the educational system in the country. Many are of the view that such persons will have no moral ground to stand on to talk about observing ethics in any higher institution of learning, and it came as no surprise to them that his kind would get involved in sex for grade scandal, as well as sexual harassment of female students.
The likes of Emmanuel Anthony should not be allowed to go near any learning institution, as he has the tendency to corrupt them. These revelations justify the actions of the University Court to terminate him, and the Principal’s stand on ridding his highly commended University of such individuals, whose main aim is merely to tarnish the image of the university, its educational reputation, as well as the country’s academic progress that has been extolled globally.
