28th June, 2023 INTRODUCTION: This has to do with an alleged case of Homosexual (GAY) conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace reported by one Mrs. Zainab Mansaray of Matenkay Village Community Portloko District against her husband Mr. Hassan Mansaray of the same community. This case was incidental for investigation.
BRIEF FACTS: Statement taken and recorded down on the 28TH June, 2023, commenced at 14; 00 Hours at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Port Loko Police Station. This Department received a report of an alleged case of Homosexual or
Gay from one Mrs. Zainab Mansaray and other religious leaders; of Matenkay Village Community Portloko District against one Mr. Hassan Mansaray who has involved himself in a Homosexual practices with another young boys in the same community of Matenkay.
On the 28th June, 2023 Mrs. Zainab Mansaray told the police that she caught her husband Mr. Hassan Mansary on the spot with his gay partner doing Homosexual activity in a room at the Matenkay community where Mr. Hassan Mansaray and his partner didn’t have any other choice unless they have to fight wherein properties belonging to the owner of the house were damaged and both of them escaped to an unknown destination if not Mr. Hassan Mansaray and his partner would have been killed on the spot. Mrs. Zainab Mansaray further went on to say that, she earlier suspected them of doing Homosexual activities since early 2023. She further told the police that, when the youths of Matenkay got the information that Mr. Hassan Mansary is a gay and he was caught on the spot doing homosexual activity with his gay partner where other number of gay people doing Homosexual activities, they went on the rampage in search of Mr. Hassan Mansaray but he was nowhere to be seen. Unfortunately, the youths saw a friend of Hassan Mansaray going to his house when they rushed at him and gave him a thorough beat. But through the intervention of other community people, he was saved and he went home and later he informed his friend through phone call that the angry youth of Matenkay community are in search of him because they got information that he is a gay. So he advised him to escape to an unknown destination.
According to the laws of Sierra Leone for anybody who was caught on the height committing Homosexual (Gay), the penalty is life imprisonment.
Furthermore, people who were convicted of homosexuality (Gay) or attempted homosexuality cannot be employed in childcarefacilities even after release.
As the investigation continues, Mr. Hassan Mansaray is nowhere to be seen in Sierra Leone and he was declared Wanted by the Police on Warrant of Arrest No. 267/2023.
Investigation is still in progress.
Actions Taken:
l. Officers visited the scene of the incident to assess the damages and gather evidence.
2. Statements were collected from other witnesses present at the time of the incident.
Investigation:
Witnesses identified several people as gay although their names and identities remain unverified at this time. The Matter has been escalated to senior police officials for further investigation. Efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects are ongoing. Conclusion:
The Sierra Leone Police are treating this incident as a serious case of traditionally motivated violence and properties destruction. We will continue to investigate and bring those responsible to justice. The safety of Mr. Hassan Mansaray is being prioritized, and security measures have been recommended.
