On July 7, 2025, the Sierra Leone Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA-SL) was officially admitted as a member of the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) during a plenary session held at the European Union Convention Centre in Luxembourg.
The agency was accepted into the global network by the Membership Support Working Group, marking a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s fight against money laundering and terrorist financing.
FIA Director General David N. Borbor, representing Sierra Leone at the plenary, is expected to be formally inducted and sign the Egmont Charter on Wednesday, July 9, during the Forum of Heads of FIUs.
Founded in 1995 at the Egmont Palace in Brussels, Belgium, the Egmont Group began as an informal network of 13 FIUs focused on cooperation and intelligence sharing. It has since expanded to include 177 member FIUs worldwide.
Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Egmont Group continues to serve as a critical platform for secure information exchange, capacity building, and knowledge sharing in the global effort to combat financial crimes.
This year’s annual plenary, held from July 6 to 11, brings together over 550 delegates from member FIUs, international partners, and observers. The event is graciously hosted by Luxembourg’s Financial Intelligence Unit.
