The Sella Development for Education and Progress (SeDEP) has formally honoured the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of Kamakwie, Mr. Alimamy Conteh, in recognition of his exceptional leadership, dedication to duty, and outstanding contribution to the maintenance of peace and security in Kamakwie town and the wider Karene District.

The honour comes against the backdrop of a remarkable decline in crime rates within the district, particularly the complete absence of armed robbery incidents in Kamakwie and surrounding communities over a sustained period. According to SeDEP, this achievement is a direct result of Mr. Conteh’s proactive policing strategies, strong community engagement, and unwavering commitment to public safety.

Speaking during the presentation, representatives of SeDEP praised LUC Conteh for his hands-on approach to policing, which emphasizes community–police partnership, intelligence-led patrols, and rapid response mechanisms. They noted that under his leadership, trust between the police and residents has significantly improved, encouraging citizens to share timely information that has helped prevent crime before it occurs.

“Security is the foundation of development,” SeDEP stated. “The peace and calm currently enjoyed in Kamakwie and Karene District have created an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, children to go to school safely, and residents to go about their daily activities without fear. This is why we find it necessary to recognize and celebrate the hard work of LUC Alimamy Conteh.”

Residents and community stakeholders have also commended the LUC for his inclusive leadership style, regular community meetings, and firm stance against criminal activities. Traditional leaders, youth groups, and market women alike acknowledged that the visible police presence and disciplined conduct of officers under his command have contributed greatly to sustaining law and order.

In his response, Mr. Alimamy Conteh expressed gratitude to SeDEP for the recognition, describing the honour as a motivation to do more. He dedicated the award to his officers and the people of Kamakwie and Karene District, stressing that effective policing is a collective responsibility.

“This achievement is not mine alone,” he said. “It is the result of teamwork, discipline within the police force, and the cooperation of law-abiding citizens who believe in peace and development.”

The recognition by SeDEP highlights the critical role of effective security leadership in local development and serves as an encouragement to other law enforcement officers across the country to uphold professionalism, integrity, and community-oriented policing.

SeDEP reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, education, and sustainable development, noting that honouring individuals who contribute positively to society remains a key part of its mission.
