As part of its campaign in the fight against drug abuse and substance use in the country, Knoxy Bingy organised a corporate football gala that involved eight (8) teams divided into two groups.
Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), the Sierra Leone Bar Association, and Africell competed in one group, whereas SLCB competed against Access Bank, Orange, and the Sierra Leone Dental and Medical Association in the other group.
SLCB emerged as the best team and was crowned champions of the Knoxy Bingy Corporate Football competition at the finals held on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the X-Ray Arena at SS Camp, Hill Station in Freetown. Ansumana Keita caught the defence of GTB sleeping and scored a goal that was buried into the back of the net in the 20th minute. The goal was the decider between the two teams in a match itself, which was described as a game of two halves.
SLCB dominated the first half, and GTB fought back ferociously in the second half, but the aggressive defence of their opponent was the stopper.SLCB defeated Access Bank, while GTB won against Orange (SL) in the semi-finals.The captain of SLCB, Mohamed S. Conteh, thanked the bank’s management for the support given to the team.
Festus Sowah, SLCB Deputy Managing Director, received the trophy from the players on behalf of the bank and complimented the professionalism of the staff both in sports and in their jobs.
