Sierra Leone Media Educators Executive Officer and Family Runs For For Their Life

On Thursday, January 21st, 2022, the chief executive officer of Sierra Leone Media Educators is a human rights and community development advocacy organization based and operating in Port loko district, Sierra Leone. Alusine Babah Kamara, narrowly escape a death trap set for him by party members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), as he was going to cover a political conflict between the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and the main opposition All Peoples’s Congress (APC) at Romakaneh village, Tainkatopeh Chiefdom, Port Loko district, North-West region.

On that faithful day, Alusine Babah Kamara was on a motorbike traveling from Port Loko city to Romakaneh village, where supporters of the two political parties were seriously engaged in a brutal political fight. Between Robat village and Romakaneh village about 13 miles long road, Alusine Babah Kamara met a group of people putting on green and white t-shirts with both the Sierra Leone people’s Party symbol and the picture of President Julius Maada Bio blocking the road. Upon his arrival at the point where they mount the roadblock, Babah heard one of the boys saying

“This is one of the critics of President Julius Maada Bio government. Let us ensure that we kill him, and no one sees his corps. He is one of the All-People’s Congress Party (APC) journalists in the form of human rights activists.”

Seven (7) of them immediately rushed to hold Alusine Babah Kamara. Babah jumped off the motorbike and ran into the unknown bush to save himself from the brutal ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party thugs. They chased him, and Babah kept running until he saw no one behind him.

After over 4 hours of struggling in the bush, Babah finally met a village where he took a commercial motorbike and rushed to the port Loko police station. When he reached the police station, Babah went to the counter and entered an official report against the Sierra Leone people’s party port Loko district office/members and executive. After entering the report, Babah was referred to the Criminal Investigations department, where one of the police officers took his statement. In the process of issuing Babah a medical form another police officer came and called the officer, when she returned, she come told Babah that he should go to Lunsar police station to report the matter because the village where he was attacked fall under the operational areas of Lunsar police division. With Babah deepest disappointment and frustration, trying to exect the police station to search for a means of transportation to go to lunsar. one of the police officers walked to him and advised Babah to find a private doctor for treatment. She told me that from the looks of things, the resident minister and district chairman of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party has instructed the Local Unit Commander not to take his case and as a security personnel she advises Babah to move away from the country for his safety.

On Friday the January 22nd, 2022, I was in my hiding place where i was also taking treatment, I received a distress phone call from his wife, that four (4 ) police officers went to our house looking for me Babah explained. I asked my wife what was the matter and why four (4) police officers were looking for me, and the wife replied.
“they said you should report at the police station within 24 hours.” He stated.

At around 9:00 pm, Babah wife was inside the living room when she heard voices outside, in the morning she found a letter at the door stating that since the police said Babah is not at his house, they will find Babah and his family no matter where they go.

Babah wife immediately parked a few things and went to her father’s village, where she is currently staying with the kids for their safety.

When asked whether he is going to be to port loko or on his official duties, he stated that if that is gonna happenhe dont think it will happen anytimesoon but on his next plan, he did not responded. He said he dont have trust in anyone for his life as of the moment. He stated that police seriously manhandled him the last time he confronted them for illegally arresting APC party members.

Babah lost everything he had during the process, including his motorbike, computer, digital recorder, digital camera, and his properties at his former resident at 34 Falaba road in Port Loko vandalized by SLPP thugs after his wife and children ran for their safety.

Babah, animal farmhouse was burned down, and all animals were stolen by SLPP thugs because he supported the APC party in the fight against the rampant police buritality in Sierra Leone

Speaking to this medium on the phone, Alusine Babah told our reporter that he is on the run for his life, his family members has even be chased out of their resident in Port loko city by the death treat note left on the front of their door.

The effort taken to reach the Port Loko place division turned to be fruitless as no officer was ready to say anything connecting to the matter.
