Sierra Leone Mourns the Loss of Distinguished Sports Leader Winston D. C. Crowther

The sporting community in Sierra Leone is in mourning following the passing of esteemed administrator and leader, Mr. Winston D. C. Crowther, on Thursday, 8th January 2026. His death marks a profound loss for the nation’s athletic fraternity.

Mr. Crowther was a dedicated servant of sport, renowned for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment. He served with distinction as the former President of the Sierra Leone Cycling Association and, until his passing, as the President of the Sierra Leone Triathlon Association. In these roles, he was widely respected for his uncommon dedication, integrity, and steadfast work in developing athletes, strengthening institutions, and promoting endurance and emerging sports.

His leadership was characterized by humility, collaboration, and a deep-seated belief in the power of sport to foster unity, discipline, and national pride. The legacy he leaves is firmly embedded in the institutions he fortified, the countless athletes and administrators he mentored, and the enduring values he championed across the sporting landscape.

The National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone, on behalf of the wider sporting family, has extended its heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family, colleagues, and the Cycling and Triathlon communities. In a statement, the NOC expressed hope that they find comfort in the meaningful, impactful, and widely appreciated nature of Mr. Crowther’s lifelong service to Sierra Leonean sport.

The committee concluded with a prayer for his soul to rest in perfect peace and for his legacy to continue inspiring future generations of sports leaders.
