Sierra Leone will be placed top on my agenda; says UN Special Envoy On Road Safety

Climaxing his three days tour in Sierra Leone, the UN special Envoy on Road Safety His Excellency Ambassador Jean Todt visited the facility of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority at the Authority’s Licensing and MOT center at Mile 6. Ambassador Jean Todt commended the SLRSA and the People of Sierra Leone for what he described as a commitment to prioritising Road Safety in the country, “what I have seen here today is testament of the readiness of this Nation and it People to achieve safer roads” Ambassador Todt said.

The UN Envoy on Road Safety reiterated his commitment to supporting the people of Sierra Leone on Road Safety and closely working with the lead agency SLRSA, Ambassador Todt informed that he had more than two decades of continued work on Road Safety.

I must also commend the First Lady of Sierra Leone Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Bio for being passionate about Road Safety; says the UN Envoy. Ambassador Todt was in the country on the invite of the first lady to assess the Road Safety situation in Sierra Leone.

The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority made a comprehensive presentation to the UN Envoy on the gains recorded by the SLRSA and highlighting the numerous challenges faced by the Authority.

Rev. Smart Senesie informed Ambassador Todt that the Authority was in advanced talks with the Ministry of Transport and Aviation for government subvention and donor partners to enable the Authority to fully actualized its dream of establishing a post crash center along the masiaka highway to swiftly respond to crash victims.

Board Chairman of the Authority Sheikh Mustapha Bawoh informed that the Authority had been collaborating with its supervising Ministry and transport stakeholders to enhance safer road usage and achieving the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety 2021-2030.

Meaningful contributions were made by transport stakeholders; Driver’s Union, Bike Riders Union, and Keke Riders Union.
