SLAJ President Manika Highlights Radio’s Role in Democracy, Praises Workshop Initiative

President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Alhaji Manika Kamara, has lauded the IRN workshop on implementing the Tripartite Committee’s recommendations, calling it a timely effort to strengthen democracy and peace.

The workshop, ongoing at the BBN Hall at Imatt, Freetown, brings together stakeholders to design citizen education radio program on the tripartite recommendations.

Kamara stressed the need for sustainable programs, noting that SLAJ is already training journalists across the country on conflict-sensitive reporting to broaden awareness of the committee’s work.

“Citizens must not just be informed, they must actively engage in shaping reforms,”  he emphasized.

Highlighting radio’s enduring influence, Kamara urged media professionals to create inclusive, action-driven content that amplifies marginalized voices.

He thanked the EU, International IDEA, and partners like Talking Drum Studio for supporting the initiative.

Additionally, SLAJ is completing training for senior journalists in Kono and Makeni this week to ensure ethical, conflict-sensitive reporting on the Tripartite process.

“Our goal is to promote journalism that fosters accountability and prevents conflict,” Kamara said.
