With his recent appointments receiving praises from the ruling and opposition sides, President Julius Maada Bio and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) are being advised not to forget about Batilo Songa. The young man, they said, should have been part of the new wave of cabinet and other departments and agencies appointments recently announced to the second term regime of the president’s.
It can be recalled that Batilo Songa was the people’s favourite for the party’s chairmanship. The young man rose through the ranks by siding with the interests of the party’s grassroots, which led President Bio to notice and even support him in the race for the party’s chairmanship.
As someone who is an ardent supporter of the president, Batilo has been one of the key purveyors of the president’s messages to the rank and file of the party, and nation as a whole.
‘Batilo Songa is not like Alfred Peter Conteh of the APC. Songa is in while the APC has in effect kicked Conteh out. We just don’t want the party to forget this young man as President Bio is preparing the party for 2028. We hope that Batilo is in the president’s plans for the future of the party,’ said one Kadie Fofanah, who said she is still in shock not hearing Batilo Songa’s name being called up for any positions in President Bio’s second term government.
‘President Bio is a strategist. We believe that he has great plans for the party’s future. We are just reminding him that Batilo has been there; he is still here and will be after many people would have exited the public service space. As someone that the president himself supported during his campaign to be party chairman, we don’t think that the president has forgotten about him. Batilo is the kind of person we hope the president has great plans for. We hope Just like all those from the first term that weren’t named to the second term cabinet and other positions, we do believe that there is a future use and plan for the services of the well liked and capable young man,’ Songa’s supporters told Daybreak.
President Bio with his second term appointments has set too many records or firsts in government history. The youthful and female dotted civil service landscape has seen the president receiving praises from all that he is truly focused on bringing everyone up to speed for the progress of the state.
‘The president’s second term will be one for the record books as President Bio plans on leaving an incredible legacy after his tenure. We hope that he will consider Mr Songa or give some indication that we will still be seeing more of him in the party and government of Sierra Leone,’ implored his supporters.
As many people are jousting for posts and space in the SLPP leadership corps, Batilo Songa as a young man should be in the mix. The future of the SLPP can only be brighter with people like Batilo Songa and the many young people and women President Bio has hired to his second term team.
