SLPP Says Win Without Run-Off

C Says Show Bio Exit Door

When the country’s iconic Cotton Tree fell down, barely one month to Election Day, there were insinuations that it is a sign of what will befall the nation, with many saying that it will mean a new beginning. As for the SLPP, they claimed that this was a sign that President Bio is going to have a second term, and this will mean a complete transformation of the lives of Sierra Leoneans.

This optimism was heightened when President Bio introduced his manifesto, among which is his determination to ensure that agriculture is prioritized and the country is able to feed itself. Several other promises were made in the manifesto, including increasing employment of youths to some 500,000. President Bio also promised to enhance his Human Capital Development agenda and continue with his FQSE program. The election of the country to a non-permanent seat in the Security Council of the United Nations has been seen by the ruling party as signs of the new beginning.

However, the main opposition party, the APC, has a different view. They are claiming that come June 24th the people of Sierra Leone will show Bio the exit door. They maintained that President Bio has failed to deliver the much talked about bread and butter issue to the people, adding that the government has ended up exacerbating the hardship in the country, with a runaway Leone depreciating alarmingly against the US Dollar. This has seen a marked increase in the cost of living, rise of prices of all commodities in the country. The APC claims that since their Presidential Candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara is a seasoned Economist, he will be able to transform the economy and bring about a change in the lives of the people. During their campaigns, the message they have been sending to the populace is that if they are better-off under the Bio government, they should vote for him, but if their lives have not been made better, they should vote for Dr. Samura Kamara.

According to political analysts, who have studied the country’s political landscape over the years, if President Bio wins the election with a landslide victory, it will be the first time that a President has won with no run-off in the midst of biting economic constraints and unprecedented hardship on the people. In the case of an APC victory, it will mean the first time in the country’s history that a President has served for one term and voted out by the people.

As June 24 is merely hours away, we shall only have to wait and see the miracle that will happen.
