In a powerful show of unity and grassroots support, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Western Area on Friday, 25th July 2025, officially endorsed Comrade Batilo Songa as their preferred candidate for the coveted position of National Chairman of the SLPP. The declaration was made in grand style at the party’s regional office, where hundreds of party faithful gathered to witness the launch of his campaign.
The endorsement came amidst chants of “The right man, the right time!” — a slogan that has quickly gained momentum across SLPP circles, symbolizing a deep sense of trust in Songa’s leadership, loyalty, and experience within the party ranks.
Addressing the gathering, Batilo Songa expressed profound gratitude to the party’s grassroots supporters for their confidence in his vision to reposition the SLPP for greater unity, stability, and victory in the 2028 general elections.
“This is not just my campaign — it is our movement. Together, we will build a stronger party rooted in transparency, discipline, and genuine service to our people,” he said.
Senior party stakeholders, regional executives, youth and women’s wings, and other key constituents were in attendance, many of whom described Songa as a “bridge-builder, unifier, and party loyalist who has never wavered in his commitment to the SLPP.”
SLPP Western Area Regional Chairman, in his remarks, called on all members to rally behind Songa’s bid, describing him as “a tested and trusted comrade with the capacity to lead the party through its next phase.”
Batilo Songa’s campaign promises to center around reconciliation, institutional reform, and strategic expansion of the party’s presence in opposition-dominated areas. His call for unity was especially well received by many who have expressed concern about internal divisions in recent times.
As the party prepares for its upcoming national convention, political observers say Batilo Songa’s candidacy adds new energy and hope to the SLPP’s internal democratic process.
If elected, Songa would be tasked with steering the ruling party through a critical pre-election period and helping to solidify SLPP’s hold on power come 2028.
For many within the party, however, the message from Friday’s event was already loud and clear: Batilo Songa is not just the right man — he’s the man for the moment.
