The Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Alfred Jalil Momodu, has said they are currently constructing the roads on the northern part of Kabala, Falaba and Limbaya and in the north-east Makolo junction to Magban Bridge and in the east from Kailahun to Koindu including Guinea and Liberia borders amongst other road projects.
He made this disclosure on Tuesday 24th June 2025 on Radio Democracy ‘Gud Morning Salone’ program 98.1 FM.
He said work on these roads is far advanced as physical works are ongoing especially on the collapsed Bumpeh Bridge. “With support from partners, construction work is also ongoing on four major bridges including the Mattru Bridge, Gendema Bridge and two others.
Mr. Momodu also emphasized on the ongoing road rehabilitation between Kambia and Madina junction and Kamakwie, a 105 Kilo-meter road, adding that Balma, Koreh-bondo and Torma-bum roads are all major road projects especially on Agricultural activities.
The DG further maintained the need to ensure quality road construction that will ensure safety, reduces crash, hence SLRA also ensure the roads are well protected against misuse by traders and other road users.
He frowned at illegal occupants who most often misuse the roads. The DG however noted that electrical or fiber installations work sometime causes damage to the effectiveness of the road.
It is also against this backdrop that traders who had illegally occupied the roads are often forced to relocate.
Alfred Jalil Momodu also went on to state that illegal occupants construct makeshifts on the foot-path of the road which makes it very difficult for them to easily complete their construction work, adding that people are also in the habit of throwing garbages in the gutters of the road which also creates flooding.
The DG concluded by warning that whoever had illegally occupied Right of Way will be removed without any notice sent to them. He added that they had sent letters and informed the illegal occupants including the Immat area down to the American Embassy, the Spore Loop area and the Kingharman road to vacate immediately.
