It was a thrilling match with high anticipation for the two communities in the 2024 COFA inter-area football competition as the two teams’ faith were yet to be decided in.
Soja Tong Community continued their good run in the ongoing 2024 COFA inter area competition.
After winning their two matches respectively they gained an automatically qualified to the next stage of the competition by 2-0 against Ascentonia in their opening fixture and 1-0 against Kossoh Tong.
Soja Tong started the match with so many missed goals especially in their defense area.
In the early first 45 minutes of proceeding, within 25 minutes Kossoh Tong had a clear chance that would have led to a breakthrough in the match. Mohamed Koroma (Kolonko), an attacking midfielder for Kossoh Tong ran in the 18 yards area of Soja Tong Community by passed the two center backs and the goalkeeper, but kicked the ball in the wrong direction.
In the 37th minutes of playing, poor communication between Mighty Blackpool Goalkeeper, Fatmata and the Captain at the defense area gave away position to Soja Tong Community. However, their mistake was rectified by Thomas Sanu, a household name in the COFA competition. Currently, he is playing for West End United, a division one club. He was the Captain for Soja Tong Community who broke the deadlock in the match. In the first 45 minutes Soja Tong Community was leading 1-0.
After the 15 minutes of recess, the two community teams continued the battle for supremacy.
In the 52th minutes, Kossoh Tong almost scored an equalizing goal but the players of Kossoh Tong missed the opportunity.
In the 70th minutes, Adikalie Bangura who was the attacker for Soja Tong Community sustained an injury and was replaced by a substitute. Soja Tong Community developed more defensive posture than before.
After the 90th minutes of playing, 6 minutes extra time was added as injury time. It was a fun fare amongst the fans as brass band and bubu music was being played to motivate Soja Tong Community team while Kossoh Tong Community supporters were silent like a cemetery.
At the end of the injury time, the referee blew the whistle to end the match.
After the grilling battle between the two teams, Soja Tong 1-0 Kossoh Tong. Soja Tong is now qualified to the next stage of the competition.
It should be mentioned that this is the very first time in the history of COFA for Soja Tong Community to qualify to the knock out stage of COFA without even playing their final group stage match.
