SOLOMON KARGBO TAKES CHARGE OF AFBC ZONE 2

Solomon Kargbo (pictured) has taken charge as President of Africa Boxing Confederation Zone 2.

After a marathon four-hour online meeting chaired by the Secretary-General Anta Gueye, Kargbo was elected the new President by acclamation.

“Solomon has taken charge on an interim basis because the former President Abdou Malam Issoufou is no longer the head of the Niger federation and has been inactive,” said Gueye.

Kargbo is the President of Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) and AFBC Competitions Commission Chairman.

On whether this year’s Zone 2 Championships will take place, Gueye said: “I don’t know yet. It is Togo which was to organize this year 2024 but its President says that his government can no longer take charge.”

Most zones are facing financial challenges to organise their tournaments which are not easy to host without the government’s support. Yet this is a very important tournament in AFBC’s calendar of events.

Zone 2 is comprised of the following member countries:

Sierra Leone
Ghana
Senegal
Mali
Togo
Gambia
Guinea
Liberia
Cape Verde
Guinea Bissau
Nigeria
Niger
Benin
Ivory Coast
Burkina Faso
