MOYAMBA DISTRICT FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION KICKS OFF BABADI KAMARA CHIEFDOM LEAGUE
The Moyamba District Football Association on Sunday, December 1, 2024, officially launched the Chiefdom League, known as the Babadi Kamara Trophy 2024, at the Moyamba playing field.
The event, held under the distinguished patronage of the sponsor, Babadi Kamara, brought together various notable figures, including the Paramount Chief of Kayamba Chiefdom, Foday Momoh Gulama; Southern Region Football Association Chairman, Benedict Bogba; Bo District and City Councils Chairman and Mayor, Victor Kosseh Hindowa; Bo and Kenema District Football Associations Chairmen, Abdul Ahmed Bangura and Mohamed P. Jabbie; as well as Former Southern Regional Football Association Chairman, Sadick Deen-Nyarkoh, among others.
Speaking after taking the ceremonial first kick, Babadi Kamara explained that his sponsorship of leagues across Sierra Leone is aimed at fostering harmony and creating a peaceful society where people interact with one another. He stressed that these competitions help ensure coexistence between Chiefdoms and promote a society free from violence.
BBD further stated that his mission is to complement President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to human capital development in Sierra Leone. He believes this can be achieved not only through education but also by using football as a platform.
He noted that the purpose of supporting these leagues is not just for entertainment but to provide opportunities for our brothers and sisters to be identified and potentially reach the highest level of football.
The visionary leader also revealed plans to expand the Chiefdom leagues to include District and Regional competitions, which he promised to introduce soon.
He shared that the Bo Rangers transformation process will serve as an example for developing football in Sierra Leone, a vision he aims to pursue when he takes the leadership of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
Babadi Kamara called on all participants to support his mission and ambition to develop football, as he believes the sport can bring about transformation in Sierra Leone.
He encouraged all 14 Chiefdoms to compete within the rules and regulations to ensure the successful completion of the league.
The Moyamba District Football Association received a sponsorship package of NLe 100,000.
The winner will receive a brand-new motorbike worth NLe 25,000, while the second and third place teams will take home NLe 15,000 and NLe 10,000, respectively.
