Mohamed Warisay Is a Notorious Liar
In recent days, a troubling wave of misinformation has been circulating across social media platforms, falsely suggesting that President Julius Maada Bio will hand over power to Dr. Samura Kamara on April 27th, 2025. This claim, which has gained traction among some supporters of the All People’s Congress (APC), is not only baseless and misleading, but also potentially dangerous to the peace and democratic stability of Sierra Leone.
At the center of this misinformation campaign is one Mohamed Warisay, a self-proclaimed spokesperson for what he calls the “Electoral Justice Movement” for Dr. Samura Kamara. Warisay has taken it upon himself to peddle falsehoods and create unrealistic expectations among Kamara’s followers, stirring confusion and heightening political tensions.
There is no constitutional, legal, or political basis for President Bio to hand over power on April 27th. Elections in Sierra Leone are determined through a transparent electoral process overseen by the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) and guided by the Constitution of the Republic. No court, commission, or credible body has ordered any such handover, nor is there any ongoing process suggesting such a scenario.
The rumor being championed by Warisay is not only a lie—it is a deliberate attempt to deceive the public and destabilize the country’s democratic order. It gives false hope to supporters of Dr. Samura Kamara and undermines the rule of law, the electoral process, and the institutions charged with safeguarding Sierra Leone’s democracy.
Mohamed Warisay’s actions are not only reckless—they are disgraceful. At a time when our nation is striving to foster peace, national cohesion, and democratic consolidation, individuals who spread dangerous propaganda must be held accountable. The dissemination of misinformation, especially on matters as sensitive as a presidential handover, threatens national unity and can incite unrest among unsuspecting citizens.
Supporters of Dr. Samura Kamara—and all Sierra Leoneans—are urged to reject lies and divisive rhetoric. The path to leadership is through the ballot box, through dialogue, through truth—not through delusion and deception.
The government remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that the will of the people prevails through legitimate, democratic means. Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant, fact-check information before sharing, and report any persons or platforms spreading disinformation designed to undermine peace and democracy in Sierra Leone.
April 27th is our Independence Day—a day for unity, reflection, and celebration of how far we’ve come as a nation. Let us not allow charlatans and political opportunists to hijack that day with lies. Sierra Leone deserves better.
