Star Sport Academy Update on Gothia Cup Participation
Freetown, Sierra Leone – June 20th, 2024
Star Sport Academy (the Academy) wishes to inform the public, supporters, and stakeholders about an important update regarding our participation in the 2024 Gothia Cup in Sweden. Despite our initial plans and enthusiasm to compete in this prestigious event, we regret to announce that our team will not participate in this year’s tournament.
The Academy has announced that it will not participate in the 2024 Gothia Cup. This decision is due to several factors. Firstly, the academy has been involved in numerous activities, which has occupied much time. Secondly, organizing travel for underage players requires substantial parental involvement and documentation. Many parents struggled to provide the necessary documents, such as their own identification. This difficulty in gathering all the required paperwork delayed the visa application process. As a result, the Academy could not meet the deadline for submitting visa applications, leading to the withdrawal from the tournament.
After thorough discussions with the Gothia Cup organizers, both parties have mutually agreed to transfer our invitation to the 2025 competition. We are grateful for the understanding and support from the Gothia Cup Committee, which allows us to plan adequately and ensure our participation next year.
Star Sport Academy remains committed to providing our athletes with exceptional opportunities for growth and development. We are already preparing for our participation in the 2025 Gothia Cup and look forward to represent Sierra Leone on that global stage with pride and determination.
