New life City/Kandeh Drive and John Michael/ Cockerel North.
The National Protected Area Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Aviation sponsored by the Sierra Leone integrated Resilient Urban Mobility Project (IRUMP), on the 10th June 2024 engaged stakeholders of the Newtown and Bonga Town Communities on restoration and protection of mangroves in the Aberdeen Creek Communities.
The Representative of the Executive Director, Mr. Samuel Ibrahim Kobba started by saying the Executive Director is unavoidable absent due to other pressing official duties. He educated them on the important of the project and encouraged both communities to embrace the project. He further espoused that the restoration of the mangroves will in the future serve as safeguard to their environment. He ended up by encouraging the relevant stakeholders to sign the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) as it will serve as a binding document between the Authority (NPAA) and the communities.
The Wetlands Manager Mrs. Yatta Hellen Kamara in her statement she explained to the communities how important it is to protect the mangroves. She encouraged them to take good care of the mangroves and she further informed them that the restoration process will include community people.
Statements were made by environmental partners such as RSLAF Navy, Marine Police, Ministry of Fisheries, and some NGOs working with the environment.
The signing of the MOU by relevant stakeholders climax the ceremony.
