The newly appointed Managing Director of the Sierra Leone National Shipping Company (SLNSC), Mr. Mustapha Mark Lissa, has commissioned a brand-new 100KVA generator plant to enhance electricity supply at the company’s Headquarters at Cline Town in Freetown. The Commissioning Ceremony held on Monday, 26th May 2025, marks a significant milestone in improving operational efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted power for the day-to-day activities. In his remarks, SLNSC Managing Director, Mr. Mustapha Mark Lissa reaffirmed his commitment to modernizing the company’s infrastructure and enhancing service delivery. He highlighted that before his recent appointment by President Julius Maada Bio, he was the longest-serving staff member of the company.

“One of the things I valued while working with my predecessor was the mutual support we shared. He often told me that he hoped I would succeed him whenever he received another appointment,” he recalled.
Mr. Lissa encouraged staff to remain committed and dedicated, noting that his leadership aims to foster trust, confidence, and equal opportunity for all.
“My appointment is timely, to continue where my predecessor, Ahmed Saybom Kanu, left off. Had someone from outside been appointed, the continuity and opportunities we now enjoy could have been compromised,” he added.
He further emphasized that staff members are the most valuable assets of any institution and reminded all junior, intermediate, and supervisory staff that they would soon commence to use uniform as part of the company’s policy.

The Company Secretary, Chief Sahr K.F. Davowah Esq. in his statement informed staff about the newly approved 2024 Sierra Leone National Shipping Act, which is set to transform the company into a national agency. He praised the positive changes under Mr. Lissa’s leadership since his appointment on 8th April 2025, despite existing challenges. He also emphasized the critical role of the generator plant in strengthening operational capacity.
SLNSC Administrative Manager, Mrs. Salamatu Foday Ngobie described the day as a memorable one for staff, especially with the anticipated transformation of the company into an agency. She recalled the operational difficulties experienced during power outages and expressed optimism that the new generator would eliminate such issues. She encouraged staff to act as watchdogs in protecting the generator from damage.

SLNSC Financial Controller, Alpha Abdulai Sesay noted that the management had identified seven key priorities, one of which was securing a more powerful generator. He shared that he was surprised by the Managing Director’s move, opting for a 100KVA generator instead of the previous 36KVA model. He concluded by stating that the generator was procured within a three-week period, and the supplier commended the Managing Director’s strong leadership and commitment to timely delivery.
