Too Much Infighting in Different MDAs…

Sleepless Nights for President Bio

President Julius Maada Bio is reportedly facing mounting pressure as some of the very individuals he entrusted with leadership roles in government institutions are now becoming a source of great concern. Instead of working in unity to advance his development agenda, internal wrangling, mistrust, and infighting among different heads of institutions have created unnecessary distractions that are undermining progress.

The latest of such is reported in local newspapers, indicating that Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, appointed by President Julius Maada Bio as Energy Lead in the Ministry of Energy is embroiled in imposing his ego and authority over the Deputy Minister I in the Ministry, Edmond Nonie.

Reports state that Dr. Yumkella has on several occasions attempted to subdue Mr. Nonie by refusing him certain official privileges including stopping him from traveling on official business overseas. These and many other issues are reported on daily basis as hampering the work of the government and by extension the vision of President Bio.

Another individual in the Bio-administration that is drawing unnecessary attention to the pitfalls of the government is Dr. Denis Sandi – the suspended Minister of Works who reports claim is currently embroiled in a forgery matter currently before the courts, in addition to usurping powers that do not belong to him and running the Works Ministry as his personal fiefdom which reports state resulted to his suspension and investigations launched.

Sources close to the administration note that these conflicts are not only slowing down service delivery but are also painting a picture of disunity within the governance structure. Several state institutions that are supposed to complement one another have instead turned into battlegrounds, with leadership struggles, personal interests, and power tussles overshadowing the core mandate of serving the people.

Political analysts argue that this situation is “not good to write home about,” as it weakens public confidence and gives the opposition room to criticize the government’s commitment to good governance. Many citizens believe the President should take a tougher stance to ensure discipline, accountability, and cohesion among those he has appointed.

As expectations for improved service delivery continue to rise, the President is being called upon to act decisively to restore order, foster collaboration, and remind public officials that their appointments are meant to serve the nation, not to advance personal rivalries.
