TRADITION OR DEATH? Musa Koroma on the Run After Being Marked by the Poro

Is Fear and tension have gripped Magbafth Village in the Port Loko District following reports that Musa Koroma, a young man from the community, has gone on the run after being declared wanted by the secret Poro society, a powerful traditional institution deeply rooted in parts of Sierra Leone.

According to information reaching this medium, Musa Koroma is traditionally identified as the person destined to succeed the current head of the Poro society in his area. However, sources say the young man, described by residents as “still very small and unprepared,” allegedly became overwhelmed by fear for his safety and future, prompting him to flee the village under cover of secrecy.

Flight from Tradition
Community sources explain that succession within the Poro society is regarded as a sacred obligation rather than a personal choice. Refusal or evasion is often viewed as a serious breach of tradition, attracting intense pressure and pursuit. It is within this context that Musa Koroma reportedly escaped from Magbafth Village and made his way to the city in search of safety.

However, his escape did not bring relief for long.

Chased to Freetown
Reports indicate that Musa was later traced to Freetown, where individuals believed to be acting on behalf of the secret society allegedly continued the search for him. Fearing imminent danger, Musa is said to have fled once again, disappearing from the capital. Since then, his whereabouts remain completely unknown.

This development has heightened anxiety, particularly among his immediate family.

Family in Distress, Community in Shock
Family members and close friends are said to be deeply worried, describing Musa as a quiet and vulnerable young man who never imagined being thrust into such a dangerous traditional responsibility at his age. They fear for his life, given the seriousness with which secret societies are known to enforce customs and obligations.

Residents of Magbafth Village are also divided—while some insist tradition must be respected at all costs, others quietly express concern about the safety and rights of a young man forced to choose between culture and survival.

Silence and Uncertainty
As is often the case with matters involving secret societies, official silence surrounds the issue. No formal statement has been made by local authorities, and fear has reportedly prevented many from speaking openly.

For now, Musa Koroma remains missing, hunted by tradition, and trapped between ancient customs and modern realities. His story raises troubling questions about youth, consent, safety, and the limits of traditional authority in contemporary Sierra Leone.

Until Musa is found safe or otherwise his disappearance will continue to cast a long and frightening shadow over Magbafth Village and beyond.
