2023 Elections Are Over and Dusted
In recent days, a wave of misinformation has been circulating across social media platforms, deliberately misleading the public about the outcome of the 2023 general elections. Chief among the false narratives is the claim by Dr. Samura Kamara and his associates that President Julius Maada Bio is set to hand over power to him on April 27, 2025.
Deliberate misinformation
This assertion is not only categorically false but also dangerously misleading and aimed at stoking public confusion and unrest.
At the heart of this misinformation campaign is Alhaji Mohamed Warisay, who has presented himself as the so-called “spokesperson for electoral justice” on behalf of Dr. Samura Kamara. Warisay has continued to misrepresent the purpose and scope of the ongoing Tripartite Committee, which was established in good faith to review and reform electoral processes for future elections not to retroactively overturn or contest the results of the 2023 polls.
2023 Elections Are Done And Dusted
Let it be made unequivocally clear that the 2023 elections are done and dusted. They were concluded in accordance with the 1991 Constitution of the Republic of Sierra Leone and under the legal supervision of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL). President Julius Maada Bio was duly elected by the people, and his Presidency remains legitimate and constitutional.
The Tripartite Committee, agreed upon by the Government, the main opposition APC, and international partners, is not a mechanism to invalidate the 2023 election results. Rather, it is a forward-looking framework designed to address any irregularities, improve electoral transparency, and strengthen democratic institutions to ensure that mistakes or concerns from past elections are not repeated. It is not, and has never been, a backdoor for transferring power or re-litigating a concluded democratic process.
Political Leaders Must Act Responsibly
Political leaders and their allies must act responsibly. They must refrain from making inflammatory statements and promoting baseless claims that undermine public trust in the country’s democratic institutions. The country’s peace and stability must not be sacrificed on the altar of political ambition or ego.
It is high time that Dr. Samura Kamara and his supporters respect the will of the people, uphold the integrity of the nation’s democratic framework, and allow the Tripartitte process to serve its intended purpose, enhancing future elections, not rewriting the past.
Stop The Propaganda
Let us not be swayed by propaganda or political theatrics. The people of Sierra Leone deserve truth, stability, and progress not confusion fueled by misinformation.
