As the current situation of the country stands many are with the views that the very leaders are the architects for all the unfortunate occurrences; political turmoil, tribalism, regionalism and nepotism. They are using those tools for their personal vendetta whilst the masses are living abject poverty. It’s indeed the poor would continue to perish and the average would continue to suffer.
Many are with the views that it is based on those factors that have inflicted poverty on the lives of the citizens. As it’s stand, majority would not afford three square meals and as such the life expectancy has dropped drastically.
Although they promised the people to protect, alleviate and meet their needs but immediately when they assumed the throne of power is the inverse. Oh what a state with scammers!
According to the statistics released by Multidimensional Poverty Index for Sierra Leone estimated that, 59.2 percent of the population in the country ( 4,987 thousand people in 2021) is multidimensional poor while an additional 21.3 Percent is classified as vulnerable to dimensional poverty (1,790 thousand people in 2021).
On that note, the Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara has become one of the astute leaders who is always ready and willing to speak truth to power has ignited the embers that they as leaders are the very blood for the predicaments in the country: ” As leaders until we put the needs of the people before our personal wants, we are just like children “.
He also mentioned that until the people are united to ask the political class for a better condition for their lives, they would continue to intimidate themselves as a way to escape the questions and expectations of their poor voters.
