The Western Area Rural District Council, has launched a bridge construction project aimed at improving transportation and connectivity for the local communities.
It is no secret that, the Local Government Act 2022 gives local councils powers to raise revenue including via local taxes, property rates, licenses, fees and charges, and to receive mining revenues, interest and dividends etc. They are also the backbone in governance responsible for implementing developmental activities in local communities.
Speaking to this press, the Chairman of the Western Area Rural District Council Chairman Kasho J Holland Cole, emphasized the importance of the project for the constituents in the district. He said this bridge will serve as a vital link for constituents to transport their goods to the market and other capacity especially for children to safely commute to school,”
The Old Road community has long faced challenges due to inadequate infrastructure. The construction of this bridge is particularly crucial for the communities of Old Road, Waterloo, who have grappled with the absence of a reliable bridge for years.
The bridge’s absence has been a longstanding concern for the citizens, especially during the rainy season.
Chairman Kasho J. Holland Cole also stressed the importance of community collaboration in driving progress. He urged residents to continue paying their taxes, noting that their contributions go directly to the council by implementing developmental activities.

The construction of the bridge is expected to be completed within a few months, marking a significant milestone for the people of Waterloo Old Road.
