The vice presidential running mate of the All Peoples Congress –APC party and former Member of Parliament representing Constituency 126, Brookfields, Freetown, Honourable Chernor Maju Bah, alias Chericoco, has assured their supporters and indeed all Sierra Leoneans that ‘we are not going to disappoint’.
The affable politician made the promise ahead of the proposed dialogue between the APC and ruling SLPP aimed at addressing the electoral dispute that continue to affect government’s performance since 24th June, 2023.
It must be recalled that since the announcement of the presidential result of the past election, the main opposition APC have decided to boycott participation in the government at all levels including at the House of Parliament and at the local and city councils across the country.
The dialogue that is slated for Monday, 16 October to Tuesday, 17 October, 2023, will take place at the Bintumani Hotel. The days’ arbitrators, the African Union, ECOWAS, the Commonwealth and the local peace commission, have promised a transparent affair that will consider the interest of the people and state.
So far, the nation’s other moral guarantors, the United States and the European Union, in what can be described as their final takes on the whole electoral dispute have advised respectively that the APC return to the House and councils, and seek the judgement of the judiciary on the electoral dispute.
The decisions by the US and the EU have taken the nation back to square one. It now calls for the country to seek home based solutions that point on the paths for redress as stipulated in the nation’s supreme law document, the 1991 Constitution.
In midst of the disappointment that must have engulfed the APC on their two main points of digression – not returning to the House, etc. and not seeking redress from the courts, the question has become: ‘What is next for the APC?’
It is based on this and many other trending issues that may point to a return to the 2018 electoral dispute that the APC running mate, Hon Chernor Maju Bah, has reassured their supporters and indeed all and sundry that the APC and Dr Samura Kamara, ‘will not disappoint’.
