- President Bio Says
The flag-bearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), President Julius Maada Bio, while addressing some party supporters, said that they are not going to kill any Sierra Leonean any more. This has caused huge debate on social media, with many Sierra Leoneans reading the statement as meaning that President Bio is aware of the killing that have taken place in the different parts of the country, including the Pademba Road massacre.
President Bio’s statement has caused serious problem for the SLPP, resulting in some stakeholders of the party expressing indignation over the way the main opposition party are using it, and the proclivity of the said statement being used in the campaign against their party. Amidst this unfortunate statement, opposition party members are calling on the attention of the international community to take note that the President is aware about all the killings that have taken place under his watch.
The main opposition party (APC) has capitalize on this statement and are insinuating that any time the SLPP is in governance, there are always issues of loss of lives of citizens, and supporters of the main opposition have already developed a slogan that “we nor go kill e gai”. This statement was repeated in the presence of the security forces during the nomination of their flag-bearer on Monday 1st May at ECSL.
