With Applications Open For Students…Kono University Commences Learning Soon

In the Ministry of Information and Civic Education weekly press conference, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conference room on 19th December 2023, by Minister Chernor Bah, and his Deputy, Sandi, the meeting was focused primarily on the outcome of the recently concluded climate change conference (CoP28), graced by the follow officials: Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Jiwoh Abdulai, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Musa Kpaka, and Deputy Health Minister Dr. Jalika Mustaphas.
During the meeting the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Ramatulai Wurie, updated the public on the Kono University of Science and Technology. Mrs. Wurie said that the government has secured a loan of $32m from the Exim bank for the total construction of the university. In a show of strong commitment, the government of Sierra Leone invested $2 million to kick start the project. Mrs. Wurie also affirmed that a transition team has been set up for the smooth running of the university of Kono this academic year. Temporal location for class rooms have been identified for classes until the construction of the University is fully completed.
Moreover, Mrs. Wurie outlined the courses that are to be offered in the university of Kono as follows: BSc. Mining Engineering, BSc. Computer Science, BSc. in Information Technology, BSc. in Business Information systems, BSc. Land Resources Management and Diploma in Land Resource Management. She furthered that the university is now open and so far about 80 students have applied, with 20% of this number being women. She called on more women to apply, she concluded.
