The Sierra Leone Volleyball Federation (SLVF) is realigning its gains with Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai’s popular quest to creating employment for young people using sports as a sharp instrument.
The SLVF 4-day Volleyball Unity Club Championship hosted at the Government Secondary School Volleyball Court in Kenema brought together 450 young people. This number included 396 athletes and 50 officials.
Speaking at the climax of the Championship on Sunday, 16th June, 2024, the President of SLVF, Ahmed Kanu, said:
“The 4-day long activities sanctioned by the National Sports Authority (NSA) provided temporary jobs for over 450 young Sierra Leoneans. Most youngsters in Kenema now play volleyball. We are pleased with the hospitality from the Kenema community, especially the Eastern Technical University (ETU), Government Secondary School Kenema (GSSK), and the Pastoral Center.
“Hosting over 450 youths under the supervision and guidance of the NSA without any negative issue is an achievement. We are proud of ourselves as a national sports federation, and we truly appreciate the NSA of Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq as the Chief.
“To develop our grassroots volleyball in Kenema, we have requested for a land at K School for the construction of a beach volleyball court. We also donated balls and floors to the school. We achieved our objectives.”
The Finals saw Young Stars Volleyball Male and Female Teams from Freetown securing the champion trophies as Wusum Stars Female Team from Makeni and the 12% Male from Freetown settling for the runner-up spot. Kamboi Strikers from Kenema took the third position.
Presentation of certificates, medals, trophies, and individual awards, including cash prize by Eric Batilo Fomba, who represented the NSA, climaxed the ceremony.
This Championship is consistent with the NSA Boss’ performance threshold that sporting associations will only be financed by Government when they organize annual national tournaments.
