Tonkolili District to Get Ultra-Modern Maternal Health Post


The Tonkolili District Council with funds from world Bank through the accountable governance project round 2 has handed over sub project site contractor with the project title Reconstruction of Maternal Health Post (MCHP) and it’s component at Masakong town in the masakong Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.

The ceremony was chaired by the Tonkolili District Council Chairperson, Madam Yabom Sesay and the Council’s chief Administrator, Edward Alpha and other chiefdom authorities of masakong, council officials, CSOs, and  the media among others.

Chief Administrator of the Tonkolili District Council, Edward Alpha official presented the contractor to the chiefdom people, adding that the construction of the MCHP would help to save lives of pregnant, lactating and suckling mothers of the chiefdom. While imploring the total ownership of the chiefdom people to own the project. he however called on the community people to refrain from buying construction materials and anybody caught  will be to persecuted.

Regent Chief Pa Robert Abdul spoke on the importance of the Health Center, adding that they have been struggling for a very long time to have such a facility. He thanked the Government of Sierra Leone through the Tonkolili District Council and world bank for considering them among several priorities with a commitment of rendering their community support for the successful implementation of the project.

Mahawa Agatha Kamara, chairperson civil society organizations Tonkolili District called on the people to Chanel their concerns of any wrong doings of the contractor and that they would also as CSOs monitor the project for the benefit of all.

Salfu Conteh, Environmental Social Officer presented a Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) team to directly handle complaints and redress them.

Council Engineer Abdul Aziz Sesay disclosed that, the scope of work that the MCHP will have the following facilities, a two apartment of two rooms and living room staff quarter, Incinerator, toilets, work way, water facilities, concrete tower, laundering facilities, solar electricity facilities among others.

In her keynote address, Chairperson of the Tonkolili District Council Madame Yabom Thaslim sesay spoke on women and youths participation towards the successful completion of the project. The reward for good work she said, is more work, noting that if the contractor performs excellently, there is a special package for both contractor and council by the world bank.

She said over 30 villages will be direct beneficiaries to the facility.

She promised that council would also ensure trained, qualified and dedicated health workers would be employed.

.Furthermore, she called on all to stay away from politics towards the project thereby embracing development for the betterment of gbonkolenken Masakong and generations yet to come.
