Hon. Paran Tarawally Confesses

Former Member of Parliament Hon. Paran Tarawally has made an impassioned appeal for Sierra Leone’s lawmakers to embrace a new era of responsible leadership, urging Parliament not to repeat what he described as the mistakes of previous years.
Speaking during an interview on Liberty TV, Hon. Tarawally reflected on the country’s political journey and stressed that the time has come for leaders to put the national interest above political, regional, and partisan considerations. According to him, Sierra Leone can only achieve meaningful development if its leaders learn from past errors and commit themselves to serving the people with honesty, accountability, and patriotism.
Hon. Tarawally emphasized that Parliament, as the country’s law-making institution, carries a great responsibility to enact laws that protect the rights and welfare of all citizens rather than legislation that may serve narrow political interests. He encouraged Members of Parliament to carefully consider the long-term impact of every decision they make, noting that today’s laws will affect future generations.
He further called on Parliamentarians to avoid repeating practices that have contributed to political divisions, public mistrust, and unnecessary tensions over the years. Instead, he urged legislators to work together in the spirit of unity, dialogue, and national cohesion.
In a passionate message directed not only at politicians but also at all Sierra Leoneans, Hon. Tarawally called for repentance, reconciliation, and forgiveness. He said that every citizen has a role to play in rebuilding the nation and fostering peace.
“We are one people,” he emphasized, urging Sierra Leoneans to put aside hatred, political intolerance, and personal differences in order to build a stronger and more united country.
According to Hon. Tarawally, national development cannot be achieved in an environment of constant political conflict and division. He encouraged citizens to embrace peace, mutual respect, and constructive engagement, regardless of their political affiliations.
He also underscored the importance of ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability in governance, saying these principles are essential for restoring public confidence in democratic institutions. He expressed hope that future parliamentary debates would focus more on policies that improve education, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, and economic growth.
Hon. Tarawally concluded by urging both leaders and ordinary citizens to reflect on the country’s past, learn from its experiences, and commit themselves to building a Sierra Leone where unity, justice, and national progress take precedence over political rivalry.
His remarks have added to the ongoing public conversation about governance, parliamentary responsibility, and the need for greater national unity as Sierra Leone continues to navigate important political and constitutional issues.
