The newly appointed Director General of the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Mr. Chernor Jalloh, has been officially sworn into office at an impressive ceremony at the Conference Room of NASSIT on Tuesday 11th August, 2026, in Freetown.
The event was graced by the Secretary to the President, Barba Fortune, Minister of Labour and Social Security, Mr. Rahman Swarray, senior government officials, private corporate institutions, NASSIT’s Management Team and the media.
In his statement, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Mr. Rahman Swarray heaped praises on the outgone NASSIT Director General, Mr. Fuaad Dabor, noting that Mr. Daboh displayed passion for NASSIT while he was the Director General.
Minister Swarray encouraged the incoming Director General to continue to acre for the Trust with diligence and commitment.
He expressed his gratitude to the former NASSIT Director General for his invaluable contributions to the institution.
Swarray applauded the positive strives made by the Mr. Fuaad Daboh for undertaken a decentralisation of the institution by establishing two regional offices.
On his part, the new NASSIT Director General Mr. Chernor Jalloh, expressed appreciation to President Bio for the confidence repose in him, He further thanked the former NASSIT DG Fuaad Daboh for his remarkable achievements during his leadership tenure.
Chernor Jalloh assured the management team and staff that he will make himself available to continue at management and staff levels.
‘’NASSIT contributions represents someone’s hard work and dignity’’ Chernor Jalloh remarked.
He acknowledged that he does not have all the answers for the Social Trust. He said he looked forward to working cordially with the Labour Minister, new Board Chairperson and members. ‘’I will cooperate with you all and not to boss over you, but I need commitment and professionalism’’ he stated.
The NASSIT DG disclosed that he will align pensions to the new government salary increase, He said that many contributors are highly dependent on NASSIT’s pension, urging that the institution must handle NASSIT responsibly.
He wished the outgone DG and the Board Chairperson well in their future endeavours.
Mr. Faaud Daboh, retired NASSIT DG recalled that when he was appointed by President Bio, he gracefully accepted the responsibility anchored on good governance, transparency and accountability while he thanked President Bio for the appointment, the Minister of Labour, Rahman Swarray and other previous ministers he had worked with.
He extended congratulations to his successor Chernor Jalloh, and asked him to rely on his goodwill support and advise.
He said during his stewardship he launched a major ICT transformation, rolled out ambitious projects and expansion of NASSIT into the informal sector, adding that today NASSIT is a household name in the country,
Fuaad Daboh however, noted that despite his achievements he faced insurmountable challenges.
