The political dispute surrounding Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has taken another dramatic turn, following a reported statement attributed to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Moses Sellu Mambu, concerning Tarawally’s possible return via Lungi International Airport.
Mambu is quoted as saying that: “the day Hon. Musa Tarawally and Justice arrive at Lungi Airport, they are going to be arrested.” The statement, as reported, but not independently verified has added another layer to an already escalating political confrontation involving Tarawally and the SLPP’s leadership.
The claim comes at a time when the party and Tarawally are locked in a public dispute over his membership status and his position within the SLPP ahead of the party’s internal political processes.
SLPP–Tarawally Dispute Intensifies
On September 17, 2026, SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa reportedly directed Tarawally to stop presenting himself as a member of the party or as an SLPP flagbearer aspirant. Two days later, on September 19, Mambu issued a public notice advising SLPP executives, members, supporters, businesses and other stakeholders not to conduct official business with Tarawally using the party’s name, authority, logo or structures without authorization from the party leadership.
The development has generated considerable political discussion, particularly because Tarawally maintains that he resigned from the CDP in June 2018 and subsequently returned to the SLPP.
Tarawally Rejects SLPP’s Position
Tarawally has rejected the claims concerning his membership status. Through his lawyers, Jengo, Sam & Partners, he maintains that he remains a fully paid-up SLPP member, describing himself as a Grand Chief Patron and saying his party dues are paid up to 2028.
His legal representatives also contend that Tarawally participated as an accredited National Delegate at the SLPP’s 2025 National Delegates Conference, where they say he voted.
The lawyers have demanded that the September 19 public notice be withdrawn and corrected, arguing that it was issued without the disciplinary process they say is required under the party’s constitution. They gave Mambu a seven-day ultimatum and warned of possible legal action if their demands were not addressed.
Mambu Stands by the Party’s Position
The SLPP, however, has maintained its position in the dispute. A report published on September 24 quoted Mambu as saying that the party would not respond to Tarawally’s lawyers’ demand and would instead handle the matter through its established internal processes.
The disagreement has therefore moved beyond ordinary political exchanges and into a legal and institutional dispute, with questions being raised about party membership, authority, disciplinary procedures and who has the power to determine eligibility within the SLPP.
Arrest Claim Raises Further Questions
Against this background, the reported statement attributed to Mambu regarding Tarawally and Justice arriving at Lungi Airport is likely to attract further public attention.
However, the reported arrest claim has not been independently established as an actual arrest order or official directive by the relevant law-enforcement authorities. It should therefore be understood as an allegation or statement attributed to Mambu rather than confirmation that Tarawally or Justice will be arrested upon arrival.
