The Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MOICE) on Monday, 2 November 2026, held its district-level civic quiz and debate competition in Koinadugu as part of its ongoing Civic Day Series, bringing together students from various schools to demonstrate their knowledge of civic issues and engage in public discourse.

The competition featured a Junior Secondary School Quiz and a Senior Secondary School Debate hosted at the Koinadugu District Council Hall at Kabala Town, with winners earning the opportunity to represent Koinadugu alongside winners from other districts at the Salone Civic Festival scheduled for December in Freetown.

In the Junior Secondary School quiz, participants competed in four solid rounds of quiz, including a tie break round. After the penalty round, Mohamed A. Shaw of Kabala Junior Secondary School emerged first with 33 points, followed by Samuel Marah of Loma Junior Secondary School in second place with 29 points. In the Debate category, the winner received Le2, 000, while the second-place participant received Le1, 500. The winning school also received Le1, 000.

The Koinadugu competition forms part of MOICE’s nationwide Civic Day Series, an initiative designed to bring government closer to the people, strengthen civic awareness and provide citizens, particularly young people, with opportunities to engage with national issues and understand government policies and programmes.

The series continues on Tuesday, 3rd November, with a Town Hall meeting bringing together ministers and representatives of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). The meeting will be hosted by the Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon. Chernor Bah, and will provide an opportunity for residents to engage directly with government representatives.
