ECSL Staff Attend AI and Elections Trainings
Four staff members from the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone’s ICT, Data Management and Inclusion Departments are participating in an international capacity-building course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Elections organised by the India International Institute of Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), Election Commission of India, in collaboration with International IDEA.
The course runs from 6–10 July 2026 at the IIIDEM Campus, New Delhi, India.
The delegation comprises Ing. Samuel Kandeh, Ing. Nasiru Brima and Ing. Isaac Foday, specialists responsible for ICT operations, electoral data management and technology solutions at the ECSL and Marilyn N. Dixon from the Inclusion Department.
The training covers AI applications in voter registration, voter education, election management systems, data analytics, cybersecurity, misinformation mitigation, and ethical and regulatory frameworks for AI in electoral contexts.
Participation in the course will strengthen ECSL’s technical capacity to leverage AI responsibly to improve electoral integrity, enhance voter inclusion and accessibility, and support evidence-based decision-making in election planning and administration.
Delegates will return with practical skills, policy insights and international best practices to inform the Commission’s ongoing digital transformation and inclusion initiatives.
The training presents an important opportunity to deepen the Commission’s technical expertise and adapt global AI practices to Sierra Leone’s electoral environment.
The ECSL staff are expected to apply the knowledge gained and cascade it to other staff members to improve electoral system resilience, data management and inclusive services for voters.
