APC Sitting on a Political Time Bomb

The growing wave of petitions and internal disputes within the All People’s Congress (APC) has become a major source of concern for party supporters and political observers, with many warning that the main opposition party is sitting on a political time bomb that could explode if urgent steps are not taken.

In recent weeks, the number of petitions emerging from various sections of the party has continued to increase, exposing deep divisions among members ahead of crucial internal elections and the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections. While many of those raising concerns insist that they remain loyal to the APC and are acting in the party’s best interest, the public nature of these disputes has sparked fears that the party’s image and unity are being seriously undermined.

Several party loyalists have argued that disagreements are normal in any democratic institution. However, they believe such matters should be resolved through internal dialogue, consultation, and established party mechanisms rather than through public accusations, media campaigns, and legal petitions. According to them, what should be treated as family matters are increasingly becoming national controversies, giving political opponents an opportunity to capitalize on the party’s internal challenges.

Political analysts believe that prolonged internal wrangling could distract the APC from its broader objective of rebuilding public confidence and positioning itself as a strong alternative government. Instead of concentrating on policy issues, grassroots mobilization, and national development, party leaders are being compelled to spend valuable time responding to petitions and managing internal conflicts.

Concerned supporters are therefore calling on the APC National Executive and senior stakeholders to act swiftly in addressing grievances before they escalate further. They argue that transparency, fairness, reconciliation, and effective communication are essential to restoring confidence among party members and preventing further divisions.

Many supporters have also appealed to aggrieved members to exercise restraint and exhaust all available internal dispute-resolution mechanisms before resorting to public confrontations. They maintain that preserving party cohesion should remain a collective responsibility, especially at a time when the APC is seeking to strengthen its position ahead of future political contests.

As political activities gather momentum across the country, many believe the APC stands at a critical crossroads. The decisions taken by its leadership in the coming weeks and months could determine whether the party emerges stronger and more united or allows internal disagreements to weaken its prospects. For many supporters, the message is clear: unity, dialogue, and reconciliation must prevail if the APC is to avoid the consequences of growing internal divisions and maintain its focus on its long-term political ambitions.
