A growing dispute within Sierra Leone Aquatics has brought renewed attention to allegations against the Association’s leadership. However, the claims remain unproven and are being viewed against the backdrop of the Association’s recent achievements and growing public support.
The current leadership continues to receive significant backing from athletes, parents, coaches, sports enthusiasts and members of the general public, who point to the Association’s expanding programmes and increased international engagement.
Sierra Leone Aquatics has recorded notable developments, including participation in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, the election of President Mohamed Abdul Turay as Vice President of Africa Aquatics Zone 2, and increased access to international high-performance training opportunities for Sierra Leonean athletes.
Athletes have benefited from training opportunities in Dakar, Phuket and Bahrain, while coaching-development programmes and domestic competitions have continued to expand opportunities for young swimmers.
The Sierra Dolphins have also received an invitation to participate in the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Beijing, further strengthening Sierra Leone’s presence on the international swimming stage.
The controversy comes ahead of the General Congress and elective process scheduled for December 19, 2026, which is expected to provide a constitutional avenue for addressing leadership and governance questions through legitimate electoral procedures.
While allegations of blackmail and other misconduct have been raised, such claims require credible evidence and should be addressed through appropriate channels. All parties are entitled to due process and an opportunity to respond.
