The National Sports Authority (NSA)   commends Sierra Leone Boxing Association (SLBA) for decentralising the sports. The SLBA’s decentralization drive took the forms of donation of modern boxing equipment worth millions of Leones, formal introduction of the sports to selected schools and training of trainers in the South and Eastern Regions over the weekend.

This move by the Boxing Association resonates with the core mandate of the NSA which is to develop sports across the country, and encourages massive participation by Sierra Leoneans in different sports of their choice.

At the formal presentation ceremony of the equipment at the Kenema City Field on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, NSA Eastern Region Boss, Mr. James Kanu, welcomed the delegation from the national office and applauded SLBA for the timely donation, describing it as a step in the right direction. Mr. Kanu encouraged boxers in the region to take full advantage of the donation and work harder to make boxing a more attractive and competitive sport.

Speaking on behalf of the SLBA National President, Solomon D. Kargbo, the Vice President of the Boxing Association in the Eastern Region, Mr. Abdul Mansaray (Bebeto), expressed profound appreciation to the NSA for their support at all times and the national executive of the SLBA for the equipment.

“This is a huge motivator. Our aim as a Region is to produce boxers for national and international competitions in the future,” Mr. Mansaray said He described the donation as the first of its kind in the history of SLBA in the region. Mr. Mansaray encouraged the boxers to seize the opportunity and make the best use of the equipment to enhance their training and performance.

The ceremony also featured training of trainers who represented both Regions in the just concluded International Boxing Coaching and Development course in Freetown organised by the SLBA and NOC-SL with support from Olympic Solidarity and World Boxing.
